Look at our new teaching aids!

by Phil

We have two new teaching aids to help children and adults learn to pedal.

The first teaching aid is a Biky Biky harness.  It sounds a bit scary, but honestly it isn’t!  This is suitable for younger children (age 2 to 7 years – height up to 128cm – safety tested to hold up to 50kg / 7½ stone).  The child wears the harness and this enables the teacher or parent/carer to help the child steer and propel themselves by gently holding on to the handle on the back.  This is much better than stabilisers or holding on to the bike.  We have already taught several children with this method, and they make much better progress and have been able to learn to pedal more quickly.  We will ask for your permission to use the Biky Biky if we think it would be beneficial.

The second teaching aid is a metal seat post handle.  This attaches to the seat post and enables the teacher or parent/carer to help the learner to steer and propel themselves by gently holding on to the handle and then let go when the child is ready.  This is also much better than stabilisers or holding on to the bike.  We have already taught many children with this method, and they make much better progress and have been able to learn to pedal more quickly.  We will ask for your permission to use the seat post handle if we think it would be beneficial.  The seat post handle is suitable for children who are taller than 128cm or over 50kg, and for adults.
